End of 2014 Celebration Extravaganza 1 - Chanukah

2014 was a unique opportunity for the Salvatots - by celebrating both Chanukah, which ran from December 16-23, Christmas Eve, Christmas Morning, and Christmas Day, they had ten straight days of gifts and celebrations on the calendar.  Add to that a Boxing Day trip to San Jose's Christmas in the Park and a birthday party on the 27th and we had twelve straight days of activities.

For Chanukah, we lit candles at home every night, with the kids excitedly trying to say the prayers along with us.

2014 marked the first time ever that I made latkes from scratch.  I let the kids help peeling potatoes, but we used the cuisinart to grate them.  Added some onions, matzoh meal, and eggs and voila!  Super yumminess!

We also went to a Sing Shalom program that focused on Chanukah music and to a Chanukah fair where Caroline talked me into getting her hair done by a "braiding virtuoso".

Caroline impressed everyone with how still she sat for her hairdo

Does she look excited?

SMILE!

OK, maybe Mommy was taking too many pictures

Fancy ribbons

And a flower!

We also got to hang out with Elsa and Anna

Big SMILE!
They told me Caroline's braids would last for a week, but we knew her hair was so fine that it wouldn't.  But we kept it together for a couple of days so her friends at school could see and then we pulled it out, leaving us with hilariously crinkly hair.

We also went to a community Chanukah celebration at Or Shalom, the synagogue that sponsors their class.  The rabbi's older son is the same age as the kids, and he seemed quite excited to see us come in.  He hung out with us and the rabbi seemed a little embarrassed that we were taking care of him, until I reassured her that, please, what's one more four year old?
