Purim Carnival & Goats

We've been enjoying a wonderful free singing class for little kids through Or Shalom synagogue and found out that they were having a Purim Carnival on March 16 (Grandma's birthday).  To make the day even MORE special, we discovered that there was an opportunity to meet the City's landscaping goats.  (I say that as if it's a normal phrase, I know.  These are a herd of goats who are rented out to "mow" outdoor grassy areas.)

Purim carnivals are all about kids.  They get to dress up in costumes and play carnival games and eat candy.  Usually the carnivals involve buying tickets and spending them on food or games, but at this carnival there was a different method of payment.  Kids could "earn" tickets by telling a joke, singing a song, or doing a dance.  The Teenies all did dances and earned 5 tickets each.  The kids running the booths also understood the importance of letting little kids win the games, which was nice.

We decided to wear our superhero costumes for the carnival.  Daniel is Spider-Man (with Captain America shoes), Max is Iron Man (with Hulk shoes), and Caroline is Captain America in patent leather and Elmo socks!

After the games, they went outside to the bouncy house, and by doing that we missed out on pizza.  The kids were hysterical, so we made up for it by promising fries and shakes before we headed to see the goats.  We almost made it to the car before Caroline realized she didn't get her face painted.  I ran back in with her and the line of girls waiting let Caroline jump ahead to get a little heart on her cheek.  Such nice people!

And then we were off again to get our food and then off to see the goats!

Baby goats and a rooster!

Poor Daniel wasn't feeling well and wanted to snuggle with me.  When I picked him up, I realized he was really warm - the start of a fever.

After a while, Daniel asked if he could go back to the big car to take a nap.  He was so wiped out, I carried him and as we approached the car, he said to me, "Mommy, I sowwy.  I weewy like the goats, I just weewy, weewy tired." It was heartbreaking to think he thought he was letting me down by being too tired to enjoy the goats, but we just played in the car quietly for a bit until everyone else came back to join us.

(I know it looks like Caroline was bitten by a goat, but really she just got a heart painted on her cheek at the carnival.)
At the end of the day, it was a lot of fun but, as always, EXHAUSTING.
