The Birthday Festivities Begin

The countdown to the Salvateenies' third birthday started a little over a week early with a surprise trip (for them) to San Jose for a concert.

After receiving tickets last Christmas to see the Pajanimals Live only to have the concert cancelled a few months later, I was excited to discover only weeks after the kids decided they really liked the new Wiggles cast members that the Wiggles themselves were coming to the Bay Area for a concert!  However, we didn't tell the kids that we were going to see the show until they left the house that evening, to avoid disappointment if something else came up.

Unfortunately, Daddy was pretty sick and didn't make it to the show with us, so Uncle had to stand in in his place.  Luckily, Uncle knows all the words and dance moves to most of the songs!

We drove down and found street parking and walked the two blocks to the auditorium five across on the sidewalk, challenging any other families to burst through our blockade.  Our seats were about ten rows back, stage right and while they were all on one level and there were tall people in front of us, there were big video screens to watch from and the Wiggles put on a show that is pretty easy to see.

While people were filing in, one of the Wiggly Dancers came out and explained that they would be collecting tweets during the show to read aloud and shared the hashtag we should use to be considered. I submitted a message from each of the kids, and Caroline's ("Caroline and Mommy can't wait to 'WAKE UP LACHY!") was picked and read out loud by Emma (even though she pronounced it "Carolyn").  Later in the evening, the various Wiggles responded to all of the tweets, which was really cute.

A bit of the way into the show, Emma, Lachy, and Anthony Wiggle went out into the crowd to collect gifts.  This is apparently a big thing with the Wiggles - kids bring bones for Wags the Dog, roses for Dorothy the Dinosaur, and fish for Henry the Octopus.  It was amazing to see the way kids flocked to Anthony, who's been a Wiggle for over two decades.

The show was really engaging, getting kids up and moving and dancing and participating, with a couple of jokes thrown in for the grown-ups too.  I went a little wild at the gift shop getting everyone a tshirt and a stuffed animal, which was presented to them in the car.  Then we blasted our Wiggles CD over the sound system on the way home as they sang along, just like teenage concert goers.  And nobody fell asleep!
