Thanksgiving, 2012

This year, Thanksgiving was a little strange.  There's been a terrible cold running through the area - it ran through our house and made its way across the bridge to Grandma and Grandpa Salvatore's place.  Grandpa had a cough first, and then Grandma got so sick that the day before Thanksgiving they decided she needed to hang out in the hospital for the weekend to rest, get some medicine, and get her strength back.

So, there was no Grandma at Thanksgiving. :(

We got up and got dressed up, loaded everyone and everything into the car and luckily encountered very little traffic on our way.  While Auntie Lee Ann and I heated up the food and carved the turkey, the children played in the living room with Grandpa and Daddy (with many trips into the kitchen to ask for bits of cinnamon rolls that Grandpa had made for them - yum!).

Pretty dress!

"Let's go see Grandma!"

"Don't tell Grandma I was standing on the couch!"
We made plates for the kids and they got to sit at the big table with everyone (and NO high chairs!) so they were very excited.

Max enjoyed the mashed potatoes

and the turkey

but he really wanted to try Daddy's wine

Sorry, Max, just milk for you

Caroline is a fan of dinner rolls

and she loves using the big girl fork

But sometimes you just have to use your fingers

Daniel was OK with milk

and with eating with his fingers!

Auntie Lee Ann used her fork, too (thank goodness!)
After dinner, we cleaned up and Grandpa, Daddy, and Auntie Lee Ann went to visit Grandma at the hospital while we held down the home front and watched a little tv.  While football in the traditional fare of Thanksgiving, the children opted for a little Thomas the Train.

When Daddy and Grandpa came back, we had some pie a la mode.  Daniel decided he's a big fan of pumpkin pie (the only one in our family), while Caroline and Max were more fans of the ice cream than they were of the pie (pumpkin or apple).  After doing a wonderful job at dinner to keep from getting dirty, the children went wild with dessert and covered their clothes in yummy, sticky goodness.  No pictures, though.
