When Chanukah ended, the kids whined for a week, every night as it got dark, "Can we do Chanukah?" "Can we have presents?" "Can we light the candles?" And so to minimize this, we made sure to put up the Christmas tree the weekend after Chanukah ended, to get the kids focused on the next thing.
This year, the kids helped set up the Christmas tree with us. They were very excited to help "build" the tree and to help put up the decorations, which led to some interesting clusters of ornaments.
